Refugees story is integral to We came from projects. I met Farooq Gul within this charity, a young Afghan embroiderer who works in France now. Farooq ousted from his country by Taliban because he embroidered tags for the British Army. With this project we have revisited all together a more personal story around those tags.
“I remember that all the villagers met before the sun sets in a clearing in the middle of wheat field. All generations met up, doing different activities depending of their age ; some of the villagers played football or kited while the eldest chatted. The wind blew very strongly. We were surrounded by the mountains.”
This memory from Farooq was the starting point of this collection. Those badges come in three colours. They are embroidered by Farooq himself in his Paris suburb studio. They are then applied on We Came from sweat-shirt.
We’ve also developed a limited edition of sweat-shirt where the pattern is not on the badge anymore but all over the fabric.
